This study analyzes electric bicycles as a sustainable mobility alternative in the city of Babahoyo, aiming to assess the current situation and formulate urban regulatory guidelines. A sequential explanatory mixed-methods approach (QUAN→QUAL) was employed, utilizing a non-experimental, cross-sectional design with a descriptive-analytical scope; the methodology integrated surveys of 384 residents with systematic observation of road infrastructure. The results reveal limited adoption (27%) contrasted with a high appreciation of benefits (81%) and significant future willingness to use them (64.8%), highlighting a gap between social acceptance and actual usage. This behavior is influenced by structural factors, notably the scarcity of bicycle lanes (78% non-existent), limited continuity, deficient road signage, heavy motorized traffic, and predominantly medium-to-low levels of perceived safety. Additionally, low awareness of current regulations was identified, reflecting weaknesses in institutional regulation and management. Overall, the findings demonstrate that while favorable conditions exist for the adoption of electric micromobility, its consolidation depends on strengthening infrastructure and road safety, as well as formulating regulatory frameworks that enable its effective integration into sustainable urban mobility.
